Home Pro Gym – Resistance Bands REVIEW

I’ve done a lot of reviewing and posting about resistance bands lately.  I’ve used some pretty lousy bands, and some that are very high quality.  It’s easy to buy a bad set of bands – pull a little too hard and *snap*!  So working on this Home Pro Gym Resistance Bands review has been a pleasure.  Are these stackable resistance bands the best you will find?  I’ll leave that up to you, since there is a LOT of competition out there.  Still, they are high quality, which is the most important thing to me, and buying them as a set just makes sense if you are trying to truly improve your workouts.  So, check out the rest of my Home Pro Gym Resistance Bands review to learn more about why I’d recommend them.

What Are Resistance Bands?

Resistance bands are elongated rubber bands that can be stretched to extreme lengths to add resistance to your workouts. They are used for many purposes, including:

  • Strength training
  • Injury rehabilitation
  • Physical therapy
  • Adding resistance to cardio
  • Variations in calisthenic workouts
  • Stretching
  • Yoga
  • Variations in pilates workouts

Resistance bands are lightweight and do not take up much room. Some of them are looped, and some are not. Furthermore, many of them come with handles to improve grip. A lot of the time a resistance band purchase comes with a door anchor included, which opens up more possibilities for workouts.

Different Types of Resistance Bands

Your type of resistance band workout will often be dependent on the type of resistance band you are using. For example, a resistance band with handles is not looped, but you will be able to have a firmer grip on it. With a firm grip, you can perform upper body movements like flies, rows, curls, shoulder presses, and deadlifts (just to name a few). For lower body workouts, resistance bands are great for squats, lunges, and leg presses.

If you have a looped resistance band, or an unlooped band without handles, you open up new possibilities. Generally speaking, you have a wider range of exercises available. Resistance bands without handles are great for beginners especially, because they can be gripped with bars and then in turn will assist you on challenging bodyweight exercises. For example, you can do assisted pull-ups and chin-ups by looping the band under your foot, and then gripping over its ends with the pullup bar. This will take away some of the bodyweight during your pull-up, and you can therefore complete the entire move with less weight. You can also use them to add more challenge to moves like the pushup, and most of the moves mentioned above with the handled resistance bands.

What Makes Resistance Bands So Special?

So many reasons! Like I mentioned, bands are great for assisting beginners with challenging bodyweight workouts, or adding more resistance to those same workouts for more advanced levels. But there are many other benefits to using resistance bands:

  • They are great for helping you stretch muscles that are often ignored.
  • They are usually very inexpensive.
  • They fit easily into a suitcase or backpack, so they are great for traveling – no excuses for not working out while you’re on the road!
  • They provide the same results and level of challenge as free weights and machines, just in different ways.
  • They are so flexible that you can use them in almost any type of bodyweight workout to add in new variations.

Home Pro Gym Resistance Bands: Pros

  • High-Quality,  Less Likely to Snap. In the short amount of time I’ve been using resistance bands, I’ve already had a few snap on me.  Home Pro Gym’s resistance bands are so high quality that you can stretch them much more than the competition.  Actually, many of the low-quality bands are rip-offs of the Home Pro Gym bands.  Don’t be fooled!  These are extremely high quality!
  • Can be used for all muscle groups.  Home Pro Gym’s resistance bands are great for your upper body, but your lower body and core will benefit from them as well.  Check out my resistance band workouts to learn more.  With Home Pro Gym’s bands, you also get ankle straps, which make lower-body workouts MUCH better.
  • Lightweight, travel-friendly.  Like other bands, these take up minimal space and can be thrown into a suitcase or backpack.
  • High resistance for a lower price.  Weights are expensive!  The most expensive set for the Home Pro Gym resistance bands costs less than $300, which will NOT get you very far if you are buying weights.  The deal is real!
  • Website often has sales.  To tempt you further, Home Pro Gym’s website seems to always be having some sort of sale.  You can knock off even more money during these special events, which happen often.
  • Results!  No matter how you use these bands, you will get results – muscle growth, strength, flexibility, endurance, and more.  As a calisthenics lover, these are great for helping me progress with some of the toughest moves.  Ditch the weights!

Home Pro Gym Resistance Bands: Cons

  • Website needs work.  Annoying pop-ups are constantly coming out of the corner of their website, saying “so-and-so just bought such-and-such!”  Nobody cares about that, they’re distracting, and it may lose sales.
  • Bar add-on isn’t a game-changer.  The bar that clips to the bands is a small extra charge (compared to buying it individually), but I haven’t found it as useful as I thought it would be.  I actually think it limits many of the moves I do with the bands.
  • Male and female sets are identical.  I’m not sure what their intention is with separating two identical band sets for males and females, and I just want to throw that out their for potential shoppers: they are the exact same set!

Home Pro Gym Resistance Bands: OVERALL

The Home Pro Gym Resistance Bands have the one trait that is most important to me: quality.  The fact that the prices are completely fair, and the results you get are legitimate, only helps them sell themselves.  The potential of these bands is through the roof, and I cannot recommend them enough.  And as always, remember to stretch!

My Score:  4.5 out of 5

  1. I purchased and use the 280 lb set plus the bar and various other add-ons (premium handles, door anchors, tricep rope, carabiners and other things). and all five power bands too. Totally agree with you about quality. Excellent. As for you “cons”, I agree about the website popups. Since the bar and male-female thing doesn’t bother me I give 5 out of 5 stars.

    1. Hi John – Thanks for the comment! You got a whole kit and caboodle, and honestly it is a good deal if you make use of it. My set still is going strong, and here’s to both of our sets lasting a good while.
