Body Solid Dip Station GDIP59 – REVIEW

Body Solid is a large fitness equipment company that is mostly geared toward business-to-business sales.  They do still have a great selection of equipment for consumers who want to work out at home, however.  And while the home equipment is pretty nice for the more typical type of workout (free weights, weight machines, etc.), their bodyweight fitness equipment is pretty lackluster.  Thankfully, they have the Body Solid Dip Station GDIP59, which is a nice surprise after you scroll through their store and only see pointless wood boxes and some shoddily put-together over-the-door pullup bars.  It can be tough to find the best dip station for your home, so I hope this review helps you in your decision making.  How does the Body Solid Dip Station GDIP59 hold up against the competition?  Keep reading to learn more.

Features:

  • 53″ High: This dip station works well for people of most heights.
  • 38″Lx27″W:  It is designed to fit well for most body types while not taking up too much space.
  • 1-Inch Rubber Grips:  To prevent sliding or pain while doing dips.
  • Steel Frame:  It is reportedly able to hold up to 500 pounds.
  • Lifetime Warranty: For both home and business purchases.
  • Center Connector Bar:  For added stability and lower body workouts

Pros:

  • Thick rubber grips are very strong. At first you will be surprised at how thick these grips are when you first grab them.  The circumference is much greater than a standard dip station.  I find that these thicker grips give me more stability and improved form when I’m doing dips.
  • Doesn’t take up too much space:  Although it is a bit larger overall than a lot of the competition, it still doesn’t take up a lot of room, so you should be able to add it to your workout area without having to remove anything.
  • Barely rocks or wiggles, if at all: The heavier weight of this station (44 pounds), angled base bars, and longer length help keep this station from moving while you’re doing dips.  This station is very well designed and it shows once you start getting into your workouts.  I still recommend putting this dip station on carpeting or a rubber mat to make it even sturdier.  I have also read that some people bolt it to the ground, which is a good idea if you’re comfortable making it a permanent part of your workout area.
  • You can do more than just standard dips.  Since it’s sturdy enough, don’t worry about doing a wide range of dip variations (explosive, walking, etc.) without rocking the station.  You can also do variations of bodyweight rows without fear.
  • Rubber grips are very long.  This may not seem important but it goes back to the last bullet point.  Because the grips are slightly angled, you can shift your grip back or forth for different dip variations.  Furthermore, you should be able to find a comfortable grip position no matter what your stature is.  Even people under 5’6 should be able to do dips without straining on this piece of equipment.
  • The connector bar is surprisingly useful for lower-body moves and pushup variations.  It is just as sturdy as the rest of the station, so no worries on that front.  I love that you can do step-ups, squat variations, and calf raises on this dip station.  Who would have thought!  You can also do decline/incline pushups, and other variations.
  • Works well with other accessories.  For greater challenges and results, strap resistance bands to the bottom bars to make the dips harder and force you to slow down and use better form.
  • Customer service is helpful.  If there are problems with your order, all you need to do is make a request and they will get on it quickly.  They should also keep you updated as they work to fix the problem.
  • Built for gyms, but available to you.  I think this is an important point, because the quality of this station is so great that it is a part of many public gyms across the USA.  The fact that you can buy one for your own home lets you know you’ll be getting a quality piece of bodyweight equipment.

Cons:

  • Heavier weight makes it harder to move around.  As much as I love the Body Solid Dip Station GDIP59, I do not recommend it for people who will need to move it around a lot (for example, if you have a tiny workout area in your home).  It’s pretty heavy so moving it for every workout would be annoying.  For smaller workout areas, I suggest checking out the Ultimate Body Press Dip Bar Station.
  • Designed in the USA, but…  Made in China.  I’m seeing a pattern with a lot of my reviews here, but the fact is that so much bodyweight workout equipment is made in China.  Still, it’s high quality, so don’t let this little fact steer you away.
  • Sturdy enough for a pull-up bar attachment, but alas…  This station really is sturdy, and I know it would benefit from an add-on pull-up bar without sacrificing its stability.  That said, you’ll need to use a pull-up bar to target the back muscles and other upper-body areas that you can’t hit wit this dip station alone.
  • More expensive than the competition.  You are paying for quality here, and that is what you should expect when it arrives.  If you aren’t sure you’ll be able to commit to using the Body Solid Dip Station GDIP59 on a regular basis, I suggest looking at some of the cheaper alternatives.

Body Solid Dip Station GDIP59 – OVERALL

The Body Solid Dip Station GDIP59 is an amazing piece of bodyweight workout equipment for so many reasons.  Above all, I find the most value in how stable it is, since I come across so many dip stations that wobble or shake during dips.  It may be a little more expensive than the rest, but you will get what you pay for.  This is a solid investment for your calisthenics journey, so I strongly recommend it!
